Indeed. Agile for legacy is a disaster. I haven't worked on updates to modern systems, but I suspect I could broaden it to "agile for an existing system is a disaster". It'll help you push something out the door, but modifying and adding new features to an existing system by agile is going to shorten its life and yours.
