Even in your example HTTPS makes it safer for end users by:
- Ensuring that the JS being run by their browser was actually that sent by the intended server
- Protecting against MITM redirects to an exploit site
- Providing assurance that the content recorded as coming from you actually did (non-repudiation)
- Protecting against SSL stripping on other linked sites
- many many more
When you argue against the benefits of HTTPS, you are most likely going to be wrong.
