If it was for internal (e.g. Windows) use then sure. When it's forced into other standards (looking at you, SDXC) and makes an entire ecosystem outside of them dependent on it, then yes absolutely screw them.

A filesystem that is aimed primarily at exchanging data between devices shouldn't be held ransom to a single company and should be openly documented and standardised. Look at UDF for example - it's a shame that doesn't see wider adoption.

All this while they shout out about how they love Linux and are encouraging interoperability between devices. It's hard to take that message seriously while they still play games like this.
