Depends on the HCI platform. When I was a vSAN customer vSAN only used 2.5% of the CPU on my VDI Cluster so with that 97.5% free you can run quite a few workloads. A lot of storage arrays either have tons of extra CPU sitting around all day, or often use limited core/power processors (I remember having a FAS in 2015 that used Celeron processors). If you have a 20 Core processor in most cases there are plenty of resources (compute and memory) to do other things.

Now given Solidfire does global dedupe (and so has to keep large hash tables in RAM), does inline dedupe and compression of all IO, and is a bit obsessive on QoS (So that likely means CPU affinity) there may be limits to how much compute can be used for other things. Time will tell...
