IPv6 and NAT

"NAT was a dirty hack, it's not required. There is large enough address range not to run out and if you like security (which we all do) you have firewalls and the security extensions."

This is all true, but it assumes access to that address range is easy to get. NAT is the difference between being able to add a second subnet to your own network, or having to try to talk your ISP into allocating you another netblock. Many places are still handing out a single /64 which IPv6 does not allow to be subdivided further. It's like going back to the old days where you had to beg (and pay) your ISP for extra static IPs every time you wanted to add a machine.
