Just look at what happened when people used ADSL modems, or were on the same subnet with some of the early fibre deployment. Once I mentioned it while teaching in a networking course - and the day after the students came with lots of data they got from their "neighbors" (XP days, lots of easily accessible admin shares... it was also a course made for "disadvantaged" young people - ethics was not one of their strong points.. hope I was then able to teach some of it too...)
