MCSE's and Unix Admin's are equally bad...

It's 2016 and we still see those stupid arguments against MCSE's that may have been funny 20 years ago....

Reality is that employers don't shower you in money anymore just because you can bang out Unix commands that extend over three lines and a bit of scripting and piping.

People that have seen the mainframe era where processes, skills and staff were mature know that Unix and Windows are just two sides of the coin.

Those open systems (Unix and Windows) offered a cheaper, but often flaky alternative to robust systems and processes.

These days people call themselves "senior systems engineer" after having spent two years of fixing printer paper jams and now think they're hot shit because they managed to install linux on their desktop.

No organisation wants to rely on those people to run their critical processes. Whatever can be procured as a service will go to the cloud. Proprietary business critical systems will be run in house and supported by people that know what they're doing.

Mission Critical stuff (e.g. banking) still runs on mainframes and maybe Unix for the Web front-end...
