Writing code just isn't exciting. "Hackers" gave us spinning phone booths and 3D mazes. "Swordfish" gave us...musical attitude and slomo explosions.
"WarGames", "The Matrix", "Ghost In The Shell", "Sneakers"...the list goes on. And what they all have in common is the we get glimpses of stuff happening on a computer, because in movie terms that's all we need to know. The actual nuts and bolts of what is being done, from ghost hacking people to writing apps, is fucking boring. There is just no way to make programming cool on screen.
