"I cannot leave my desk until this is solved."
Sometimes it is the act of leaving your desk that gets the mind off its tramlines and the answer becomes clear. Many times in my career I have given up on a problem and left the office. Then 100 metres down the road had to turn back as the answer had just occurred to me.
Managers often put the coffee machines in working areas so the staff don't spend too much time away from their desks. In fact it is the break of a moderate walk that is often most productive.
