She has a spare battery in the glove box. She was back on the road in < 3 mins. THATS WHY PEOPLE HAVE SPARE BATTERIES!
That's why iPhone users have decent car chargers, we just stop for a break when we feel like it :).
I frequently use my iPhone as a SatNav (TomTom) and it manages to charge up during that time as well. Judging by how fast it can charge I suspect that Apple has come up with something that detects it's been hooked up to a 2A capable socket.
Needs differ. I have never really felt the need for a swappable battery or external memory. Both complicate the phone, and *not* having lots of storage also ensures I don't get tempted to keep more on the phone than I absolutely need, which makes backing it up easy and reduces the impact of losing the phone or having it stolen.
