El Reg should learn that the only way to totally stop a lawsuit in the US is to Win them in the Supreme court or to buy the company bringing the lawsuit. Even if you win in the USSC you probably won't be able to get your hands on the damages awarded.
The state of litigation in the US means that (IMHO) it won't be too far in the future that you will be advised to employ a $500/hour lawyer just to advise you where to put your feet when moving from your huge Mega SUV to the Fast Food emporium. Just in case you step on an ant and some animal rights libertarian sues you for a gazillion $$$$ bacause of your blatant animal cruelty.
