You clearly have missed El Reg's "Biting the hand that feeds IT" mission statement.
No, that refers to not taking what vendors state at face value and digging out the reality behind it, not to some idiotic biased pandering to one part of the audience. The "biting" refers to clearheaded unbiased checking of facts, whereas name calling of that nature is something I expect of the Sun and other screechy tabloids, not of The Register.
That "idiot tax" statement merely declares that whatever you're about to read is falling well short of that standard and demeans not only the reader, but also the author. It's weak and unprofessional and (worse) not even entertaining.
