back to article Viking frogmen chase Street View spymobile

Last weekend saw the launch of Google's privacy-busting Street View in Norway, and it didn't take long for locals to spot a traditional Viking welcome for the Great Satan of Mountain View's spymobile on the streets of Bergen: Two men dressed as frogmen sitting on Bergen street The two men begin to chase the Street View …

    As google doesn't censor

I wonder what the effect would be of lining the route of the googlespymobiles with posters proclaiming "google go home" or words to that effect?

      %&$·&%1$%@

Since Google scrub out any ledgeble text (lest it be something someone may want to read, even if it isn't a car number plate), then you would just end up with some posters that say the same as my post title!

Thank you to El Reg, Google and the frog men for a good old theraputic belly laugh on a day when I'm stuck in the office with a stinking head cold.

    Welcome

    I am glad to see

I for one welcome our neoprene-clad overloads.

    Ace!

I had tears coming down clicking through on StreetView. Kudos to the boys. They actually chased the car quite far...which is quite something considering they're waring rubber suits and fins.

  13. Number6

Did they know it was coming?

One has to wonder whether they knew the Google car was coming or whether it's common for Norwegians to sit in deck chairs in the middle of the street like that.

    But how?

These must be inside jobs set up by the driver, who else knows the route and timing so precisely? I know it takes some time to don dive gear and you don't want to be waiting about long under the sun in a black rubber suit.

    1. Crazy Operations Guy

      I think they were waiting...

They probably saw it a couple blocks over and set up this ambush, they looked quite comfy, so they may have been waiting all morning.

I want to move to Norway!

Compared to these nutters, I look sane. And really, in a country where people can do this, how are you *not* going to have a good time?

    Big fish

According to the newspapers here they knew the driver, and knew approximately when the car would pass, but the driver did not know what they had planned.

Also they waited for 2 hours or something. In drysuits. In the summer. Glad I didn't have to be near when they took those suits off.

    WTF?

    Life imitating art.

Well, not exactly. More like life getting right in the face of art and bigging up its superiority.
