Good Dog

Glad to hear about the dog thing. The dams raid, though, was largely pointless, with a terrible waste of civilian life. 617 squadron performed much more valuable work later in the war with the Tallboy and Grand Slam bombs, which afaik has never been commemorated on celluloid.

Jackson is not actually making the film

I would imagine he will leave such decisions to the director and his creative team. As reported on many a film/entertainment/news site around the time of El Reg ran its misleading story about the remake, Jackson is to produce the film and that's it.

The Dambusters was shown on British television a few weeks ago and the name of Gibson's dog could clearly be heard to have been over dubbed as "Digger".

DVD release

Will the 'cleaned' version get a DVD (standard & HD/Bluray) release. This is a classic story in a classic movie. The film includes some of the actual trails footage. If you haven't seen it then do so. Remember, it was all done without the power of digital computing!

The N-word: not all movies get "the treatment"

For what it's worth, the Ealing classic "Kind Hearts and Coronets" played on American cable not too long ago, in its entirety, complete with the use of the N-word intact.

And this was on a Sunday afternoon; no "after hours" showing for objectionable content and the like.

Kudos to Turner Classic Movies for airing the film as it was originally shown.
