I don't mind getting paid for consuming electricity, but it may not be very sustainable. That is why you need these very large consumers, to keep the electricity prices high and to be able to double the electricity supply every so many years.

I've heard there are some datacenters that pipe waste heat towards remote heating. It's a good idea. I suspect it takes quite a bit of infrastructure, though.

All major Danish cities have district heating systems that can take the heat. The excess heat from the facebook barns is distributed to houses by Fjernvarme Fyn

There are rules that make it unattractive in Denmark. I work in building that houses a datacentre - but waste heat can't be used to heat the building, AC pipes it outside, because otherwise you have to pay tax on it. Yes, tax on heat you already paid taxes to generate.

If there's one thing Demark is good at, it's creating a burdensome and Lovecraftian tax system, the horrors of which are beyond comprehension.
