    Sushi

Just so that people are aware: 'sushi' is vinegar'd rice. That's what the name means in Japanese. 'Su' is vinegar made from rice-wine.

Raw fish (aka sashimi = 'cut meat') is often found on sushi but is by no means a requirement. Think of it like butter in a sandwich. It's usually there but a sandwich without butter is still a sandwich [1]

Nor is the dried seaweed (Nori) a requirement either but it is also often found on sushi. Nori allows for sushi to be eaten with the fingers.

[1] The Swiss singer Mani Matter has a good song about the dialectics of sandwiches.

Personally I tend to prefer sashimi to sushi. Eating raw octopus has the added fun of watching other people's reactions.

      Now I'm feeling hungry.

Do you mean the little live ones?

Personally, I'm not very fond of sticky food

[Yes, I know it's a Korean delicacy, not a Japanese one]

I feel your pain, and grieve in our loss.

At least most Brits can do the conversion in their heads, although it does seem to be a bit of a wildly moving target lately ...

He got caught in the law enforcement agencies' net but he's just a small fish in a big pond. Maybe he had bigger fish to fry.

Thanks for trawling through my comment.
