back to article Taiwan creates new challenge for tech industry: stern content regulation laws

Taiwan's concentration of tech manufacturing capability worries almost all stakeholders in the technology industry – if China reclaims the island, it would kick a colossal hole in global supply chains. Now the country has given Big Tech another reason to worry: transparency regulations of a kind social networks and surveillance …

"Transparency of algorithms used to determine ad placements"

Oohhh, that's something that Google is going to fight tooth and nail.

And what's this : a public database of stuff that has been taken down ?

So, you remove it from one platform and you display it on another one ?

    I don't get it.

They probably mean that you leave a record that you have taken something down, not a copy of what was removed.

It's the difference between seeing graffiti in an alley vs in an art gallery. Location and context matter.

Also there's no reason to assume the database of removed stuff will be public.

Can't reclaim what was never yours

    > if China reclaims the island

Reminder that the CCP has never posessed the island of Taiwan, so can not "reclaim" it.

The CCP wouldn't claim it. The state of China does, and shows no signs of letting up on that claim.

The world is hoping that the PRC will get it's act together and peaceably petition to rejoin the ROC after their teenage rebellion.

    List it in a database

So I assume that database has to be publicly accessible to be useful, and you have to be able to identify each individual instance in that database.

So what stops someone from saying something outrageous and terrible that gets removed from Twitter, and instead of linking to his tweet people share a link to what he said inside the "removed content database"? Basically they'd be providing hosting for it instead of social media platforms.

I suppose if they make the database searchable, but not linkable - so you can find stuff by manually inputting search terms but it doesn't produce a link that can be used by others - it might work.
