back to article DORA explorers see pandemic boost in numbers of 'elite' DevOps performers

A report from DORA, that's the Devops Research and Assessment sponsored by Google and other DevOps vendors, says 26 per cent of surveyed technology workers consider themselves "elite performers." DORA was founded in 2015 by DevOps specialists Nicole Forsgren, Jez Humble, and Gene Kim, and in late 2018 was absorbed by Google …

You may be thinking of the Puppet State of DevOps report which is different, hence this one is known as the Accelerate or DORA State of DevOps :-)

Isn't there any connection? Didn't Jez and Gene both used to be involved in Puppet State of DevOps? Why did they break away? Or am I misremembering? (or in other words, can you just google that for me?)

          Re: Re: Dup?

There was just one State of DevOps report prior to the 2018 Google acquisition of DORA, and yes there is common ancestry.

    Ah, the wonders of self-assessment

"26 per cent of surveyed technology workers consider themselves 'elite performers' "

I am not an "elite" performer, I am a friggin' god of performance. If my salary was based on my personal assessment of my performance, I'd be paid €60,000 per month.

Unfortunately, I'm not really the one determining my salary, my clients are. So, as long as they keep calling me (and paying me), I am still the god of performance.

Ah yes, Pascal Monett ...... but as is always as has been the case since the beginning of time, all the colossal amounts of money are just simply cleverly earned and gratefully paid and received and spent by clients whose personal performance awesomely far exceeds base assessments to an extreme degree of selfless satisfaction and monumental pleasure.

To be elite, one must deploy multiple times per day

No Grasshopper, to be truly elite one need only ever deploy once.

It hardly ever happens these days of course, but is nobody ever solving problems that take more than a few hours to solve? Is any devopser ever concerned with good design? Thank goodness I programmed as a paid company worker in the days before it became infested with the stupid idea that programming is nothing more than lists of microtasks, generated by some supreme being...............

    Joke

26 per cent of surveyed technology workers consider themselves "elite performers."

And they are building "elite upgrades" that always destroy software and hardware functionalities in aspects of any field that they don't understand completely. And we're told that there will be an update that will fix the problems by replacing them with new problems - oh sorry, I meant to say updates.

To be considered "elite" you can have WHAT percentage failure rate?

I dunno 'bout the rest of ElReg's commentards, but if I had a 15% failure rate on deployment, I'd have been out of business as a consultant decades ago ... and while I'd be called a lot of names, "Elite" wouldn't have been one of them.

Please tell me you missed out a decimal point, ElReg.

It must be a trick question. I can't imagine a revenue generating company settling for a 15% failure rate of anything. Three or four minor failures a year is enough to make new testing, review, and change control policies suddenly appear.

Makes one wonder how No10 and Parliament manages to survive, and according to them prosper and have everything under command and control, with their catalogues of monumental serial fcukups so evident.

They must just be making everything up as they prance about on those media stages trying not to look completely out of their depth remembering those hastily prepared 0day scripts for general public consumption/corporate brainwashing.

Well, yes. Thus it ever was, since humans settled together in the first crude cities to make the growing, protecting and harvesting of beer grains easier and more efficient.

Wait ... you didn't honestly believe that politicians actually know anything at all about the shit they prattle on about, did you? Shirley you know that they will say anything their handlers write for them in the hopes of getting their meal ticket re-elected, right?

I'm absolutely certain they know not nearly enough, and will never ever know enough about everything including the shit their handlers may have them prattle on about in the hopes of getting their meal ticket re-elected and state benefits extended. It is though a glaring abiding universal vulnerability for more than just 0day exploitation and any resultant personal vulgar crass extreme enrichment and/or grateful systemic reward/award.

Do you think sharing and agreeing with such information invites the Prosecution of Joint AIdVenturing which would be as good as herald the Persecution Inquisition of the Puppet Masters and Muppet Pastors practically responsible for virtually all and the failed government lackeys fronting and espousing incompetent policies and worthless bankrupting programs ...... and thus be a very welcome radical change from the current perverse and destructive serial norm most everywhere or anywhere on Earth?

"I can't imagine a revenue generating company settling for a 15% failure rate of anything."

I've seen so-called "devops" implementing outfits in the 60+% power-on failure range for customer-facing system upgrades ... and happy about it. Seems the WWW is ephemeral anyway, so why bother with little things like QA/QC, as long as it's implemented quickly.

Then again, the very same "devops" implementing outfits seem to only exist to place as much investor money into the pockets of the principals as possible.
