I'm sorry, but I couldnt read this article without sub-consciously replacing the word Bork with Bjork. And having images of everyone's favourite Icelandic export swimming in my mind.

More likely "Typical SD Card" - Regardless of OS, too much writing to a pi's SD card will tend to kill them within a few short months. Things can (and should) be done to help mitigate this (no swap, ramdisk for logs etc) but the best solution I've found is to use "Tiny Core Linux" which is robust enough to allow a turn-it-off-and-back-on-again approach for applications like this.
Have a search for "PiCorePlayer" for an excellent project doing just that.

That's not a nice thing to call Plymothians. Although thinking back to my years at their Polytechnic you might have a point. I lived in Exeter at the time so a certain antipathy is to be expected. It's nothing that moving the border with Cornwall a few miles further east couldn't fix :)
