back to article Too easy. Microsoft introduces moderation for Winget package repo after spike in bad submissions

Microsoft has introduced human moderation for packages submitted to the repository for its newly released Winget package manager, following a spike in duplicate and/or bad submissions. The Windows Package Manager, also known as Winget, was released during Microsoft's Build event last week. At the time, senior program manager …

    Typical Microsoft

They focus on onboarding new developers onto their platform as fast as possible, with quality being a distant second place.

Without exception, every single technology that makes it 'easy' for wannabe programmers to get on board has resulted in catastrophic consequences. Hideous quality code, ridiculous libraries, terrible documentation documentation... the complications are endless.

And then people are surprised that the incidence of vulnerabilities are shooting through the roof.

Not to mention that creating something to point at installers had a downfall when they "required user input". I have never seen a windows installer that did not ask me to click next 45 times. Every time I see a Windows user installing things on their new machine I am just bamboozled with their patience as they click next 85 billion times. I have a text file that I pipe into apt and then I walk off.

    Its scum

The reason why this happens for Microsoft is because it is all scum.

The company is scum, the target market is scum, the aims are scum, the culture is scum, the community is scum.

No-one with serious passion for software will touch the operating system since 2002 when they brought in DRM and went downhill from there. This is becoming increasingly clear. Leave the cesspit and enjoy computers again.

So why you don't look for another job? Maybe it's people like you that makes MS so bad?

It looks there's plenty of FOSS software you could work for with your hate for things like DRM.

But maybe they don't pay enough - if they pay at all?

Or maybe you don't really work for MS at all.

"So why you don't look for another job? Maybe it's people like you that makes MS so bad?"

        (1) Lots of people work at nasty jobs for the simple reason that they need the money, e.g. my own job is not that great but the pay and benefits are decent so here I am. (2) A sewer is nasty, but it's not made nasty by the people who are paid to open the covers and poke around in it. "Make it better or leave" sounds like a false dichotomy to me.

Everybody agrees MS is clueless these days. The Winget implementation is yet another exhibit in the freak show. But for some reason people are downvoting AC for stating the obvious. The only reason I can think of is because he works for MS he gets extra hate.

Why would you work for a company you clearly hate? If you left them, you could pretty much remove anything Microsoft from your life. Linux has applications that more than fill most people’s needs, unless you need access to specialised hardware.

I know quite a few people in both industry and academia that rarely touch anything remotely Microsoft.

      Unless you are just trolling.

Sucks that there's no prior work in this area to build operation strategies around. Oh well.
