back to article India to trial restoration of Internet access in Kashmir

India has taken a small step towards restoring meaningful internet access to the disputed states of Jammu and Kashmir, by ordering a trial restoration of 4G services in select areas. The region is disputed by India, Pakistan and China, but was governed by India as a semi-autonomous region until 2019. However in August of that …

    Poorly researched

The story is factually wrong on multiple counts.

    1. There is no state of J&K. There was, but it's been gone for a year. There's only a union territory of J&K, which is only a small part of the former state of J&K, encompassing less than half the Indian controlled area.

    2. The internet restrictions existed primarily in the more violence prone Kashmir valley within this smaller UT, and not the southern Jammu area.

    3. Post paid mobile services have been running all this while. Prepaid services were briefly curtailed, then restored.

    4. 2G internet services were running since early 2020.

It's just 4G speeds that are being fully restored throughout the UT, not 'internet access'.

This is a tech site. The article is about tech.

You want politics to suit your world view ? You'll find it in your own preferred poison elsewhere. You won't get it from an article that doesn't get even the basics of the technological information right.

So apparently you don't want this to get political, but you have the audacity to downplay the occupation which on a daily basis is seeing kids permanently blinded, women raped and people shot in cold blood for the sake of photo ops. But in all of your innocence you wanted to point out that those people may still have 2g internet access so its not all that bad....
