It looks like the moon has been involved in a paintball fight and lost bigtime. Either that or its been flour bombed with coloured chalk dust.

on a more serious note, this looks someone has put in a lot of effort to make a seriously useful map.I just hope we get back there someday and that space exploration does 't suffer from big budget cuts because of covid19.

Now we have the map what does it indicate about the places explored by the missions in the futuristic 70s.

Were they just the dust bowls they appeared to be while amazing things were just over the hill?

Holi festival hits the moon

Lovely colourful map. Actually, if you stretch saturation on lunar images, you will see some colour differences indicating differences in composition. An example can be found here. This was taken with a planetary camera and my Celestron C8. After stacking hundreds of frames, you get good enough signal-to-noise to boost saturation without noise exploding.

Not mentioned is the significance of the Dark Side of the Moon which is colored, appropriately, Pink.
