Product Management. At Uber, a company with no products!!!! Yep, I wouldn't design the company like that either. How about employing more people to do proper background checks on the contractors/employees who drive?

But who would check on the people doing the background checks?

    27000 employees?

What are they all doing? Is Uber a Mechanical Turk?

Mechincal Turk? Not likely, the Turk had far more checks then Uber.

Thank you, I'll be here all week.

      Re: 27000 employees?

Indeed, if the 435 RIFed employees were ~8% of product and engineering then there are less than 5500 people in those two groups. What do the other 21500+ do?

OK, Uber being Uber there may be 20K lawyers on staff... Got it.

Those are probably the "independent contractors" they're forced to count as employees, which is pretty believable.

They can still find a job in the gig economy...

And be happy about their new job which let them choose when to work and when not... and enjoy the flexibility they worked hard offer others...

In related news, Uber puts on a growth spurt as it increases by 435 surly new drivers.

You mean Lyft, right? The former Uber employees know just how bad things are there for the drivers!

Good thing I wasn't drinking tea at that point, otherwise would need a new keyboard.

Waterproof keyboards. It helps. That or quit drinking, but I spend far too much time on the internet (research, news, etc.) to even consider doing that.

    Meh

….if we started from scratch, would we design our organizations as they stand today?"

I'm not sure that being a slightly smaller bunch of disruptivedeliberately confrontational cunts is likely to be any real improvement.

    Share Price

Uber's stock ended the day at $33.51

So the current shareholders are still hopeful some rube from the backwoods will buy their shares then?

    Just a bit more

That saves about $20M per quarter. Just need to trim a few more billions of dollars from the expenses to turn a profit.

    My fantasy

My fantasy is that this is the beginning of the end of Uber as a company.

Same. I was wondering how I missed the news that Apple had purchased Uber.

Yes, but how many actual employees do they really have?
