back to article Hands up who isn't fighting Oracle in court? HPE, for now, as Solaris support sueball tossed

Oracle's copyright battle with HPE over operating system software has been kicked out of court. The suit began in 2016, when Big Red accused HPE of improperly partnering with maintenance biz Terix Computer to sell third-party support for the Solaris operating system. Oracle said only authorised partners can support the OS. …

Oracle's new business model (much like old one).

    1. Give Solaris engineers their marching orders.

    2. Use money saved in wages to hire even more lawyers.

    3. Sue company providing much needed Solaris support to customers.

    4. ???

    5. New yachts all round!

You'll have to explain why you are not involved in legal action against Oracle.

We aren't yet... but soon, very, very soon.

They told us: "Please be informed that I had checked with your Support Sales Representative (SSR) and it seems that indeed you have a valid support CSI for Solaris Operating System 11.4 support on the T5120 servers."

So they charged us to run 11.4 on a machine that it won't run on.

Yes, but you've got the RIGHT to run Solaris on those systems, that's what you're paying for!

(Much like fighting for Stan's right to have babies in Monty Python's "Life Of Brian")

Well with a valid support contract, does that mean you can expect them to fix it to run on those servers?

Looking at the tech articles surrounding Oracle and IBM recently. One would be forgiven in thinking that these, once, tech giants are now displaying business practices akin to Patent troll companies.

Oh how i wish Sun had never seen or heard from Oracle....it was rape and nothing else. Sad sad sad

Oracle really are just a terrible terrible bunch of twats. Rinsing their portfolio until nobody ever wants to be their customer ever again.

But yachts all round so who cares, eh?

    Lawyers > Engineers

Oracle has always invested more heavily in lawyers than in engineers. Curious for an ostensibly technology company but their business practices have required it. Shakedown customers, sue the ones that argue then increase prices - lather, rinse, repeat..
