This is what should happen to companies such as Salesforce.

Any company in the US that is supplying any abusive agency of the US government with software or any other services should be forced into bankruptcy and the management should be hounded out of the country. There are many places that would give them a new home other than the US and they should be forced into refugee status themselves to see what it is like.

CBP is hardly abusive. The US has incredibly lax immigration policies. It amuses me to no end that Mexico complains about US policy, but if you emigrate illegally to Mexico, it's a felony, some jail time, and instant deportation when you get out. Second offense is an automatic 10 year sentence. Meanwhile, in the US, if you dodge CBP for 15 minutes, you're pretty much home free - it's so lax and easy that you'd think the policies were written by Rockstar Games.

It's just kind of ironic that country that is almost exclusively* populated by immigrants, has such problems about other people coming to join them. Pulling the ladder up much?

The exec refresh has seen Benioff take responsibility for "vision and innovation" at the firm – and in the earnings call he waxed lyrical about the spectre of unintended consequences of emerging tech like artificial intelligence and (of course) how Salesforce will fix it.

That whole vision and innovation thang, reminiscent of how Leisure Suit Larry has redefined his role at Oracle. Hmmm....

Adding a new branch onto the org chart doesn't count as "doing something" or "reform". It comes off more like a PR move not intended to cause any real change.

But it could be the first step on a good path. While I'm deeply skeptical, it is possible.

The author should research the immigration policies of other countries before making such statements, or copying and pasting the comments of some rampant wind up toy from the left

Abusive. Compared to China, Russia, How about many of the middle eastern countries, Israel for instance, or how about my own country Australia. All have tougher penalties for illegal immigrants. Or in the case of Australia longer processing times for them or asylum seekers than the U.S.

Perhaps you meant finally enforcing their own laws rather than the decade of blind eye policy that has them in the mess they are now.

The USA is not supposed to compare itself to lesser countries to feel good about itself.

Since WWI US policy has always been to set the best laws and follow them, compare its success to itself and declare whether or not it was doing well. If it wasn't, it was time to try harder.

Until the NSA took over, Eisenhower left the political scene (with a warning) and fraidey-cat politics became de rigueur. So now you have to compare yourselves to Russia and China to feel better.

What a pity.
