US House Democrats are asking Republicans to subpoena the State Department over its decision to shut down a key government cybersecurity office. Reps Elijah Cummings (D-MD) and Robin Kelly (D-IL) penned an open letter [PDF] to Oversight and Government Reform committee chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) this week asking that he issue a …

We all know the US doesn't need cyber-security...

It's not as if they're being hacked by the russians or anything...

    Oh wait...

It's not that. It's just there's nothing left worth stealing.

Is that because it is already in the NSA archives and they are afraid someone will find their spying tools?

Somebody forgot to tell Hilary about cybersecurity as if her homebrew server was ever secure.

And if this were a Clinton administration, your comment might be relevant. As t is, it's just whataboutism to distract from the issue at hand.

Actually, I find it very relevant. Seems that too many in power seem to believe that they are above everything and everyone else and thus, don't need cybersecurity as no one would dare hack them.

Re: We all know the US doesn't need cyber-security...

As mentioned above - at least in the domain of the pols, there's nothing left to steal after the Awans, Hillary, and Feinstein's driver. I'm sure there are a few more than the "official narrative" admits, those aren't even in doubt.

Heck, I'd tell them it was atill running, but start a real one in secret and bust those leakers.

Instead of defending them with some ridiculous "whataboutism" as though the kettle wasn't as black as the pot. If it's not criminal because it's in the past, why the current fuss about past actions by the Cheeto?

The cognitive dissonance is strong in this world...

Because he IS in the office right now and his historic pattern of behavior is relevant to anticipating possible decisions on the future direction of the country, unlike a failed candidate who has no ability to set policy.

          What is "whataboutism"??

Is this HOMOPHOBIA or being deplorable and irredeemable? A new word in hate speech.

    F**k Tillerson.

Tillerson deserves the derision for years to come. So much for the myth about CEOs being supermen at everything. His boss undercutting him was a symptom not the disease. Only good thing about the guy was his reign of incompetence was short. Still did plenty of damage to the state dept.

'So much for the myth about CEOs being supermen at everything.'

That's long been disproven. Only the US still believes in it kind-of:

"Stories which grossly inflate pay for the CEOs of failing companies have become the norm. The rationale is that high level of compensation helps make corporations more competitive and productive. There is little evidence that this is actually true, but this does not prevent companies from giving executives obscenely high rates of pay, all the time working hard to scrape back pay and benefits from lower-level employees. The compensation boards who decide on this are often made up of CEOs from other companies who, to nobody’s surprise, share the belief that CEOs are worth millions."

Another 'Desert The Sinking Ship' Moment For The US

How many Americans believe they're still going to be able to retire someday... Why not take the balance of that classic scam called a 401k, and exit. Your $$$-USD will go far further in other parts of the world. The irony here for some is that you'll need to be able to speak a little Spanish....
