back to article ICT cast down into the eternal fires of hell

It's official: the term ICT has joined mobe and lappy in the eternal fires of lexicographical hell after 1,396 of you (57 per cent of the vote) demanded its immediate consignment to the dustbin of history. <acronym>. Or possibly <abbr>

If I hover my mouse pointer over the acronym (handily underlined with dots), I am enlightened.

    RE: FMS?

well, if you look at it, it has a slight dotted line under it. hover over it the full wording comes up either in the status bar in opera or as a tool tip in firefox. if you are still using IE then you dont deserve to know what it means.

for those of you who dont know, but give 2 hoots, how this is done - its the semantic tag <abbr> and its title attribute.

Nice to see that you guys are using nice web standards :D

    Use in the real world

Although I hate the term 'ICT', it is a widely used acronym, used in business, unlike mobe and lappy which are just... stupid. To further the point, you wouldn't use LOL in a business paper or serious news article, but you would use TWAIN, as although it's stupid, it has a technical meaning.

Unless you're reading it as an RSS feed in Thunderbird, in which case there is no dotted line ;o) I still have no clue what it means!

    Hoorah!

our IT dept had the e-mail signature

    ICT - Innovate... Change... Transform

We became so sick of this that some of us changed it to the more realistic

    ICT - Interfere... Confuse... Terminate

Glad to see IT back again.

    FMS ?

So it's not "(AAAAARRRRRGGGHHH) F&*$ing Microsoft" then?

    Point of order

TLA, WTF, FMS and OMG are initialisms, not acronyms. FFS.
