    What is the point of this? You'd be hard pressed to get a couple of horsepower over the surface of a car in direct sunlight!

    The only sensible way Musk could power Teslas using this technology is by harnessing his reusable vehicle to get them into space.

      I think the article misrepresented the main aim was to put panels on car roofs. Their idea is for home owners to have solar panels on the roof of their houses that can charge their teslas (either directly or via a powerwall battery). A days worth of sunlight could be enough to power a shortish daily commute

    Not nearly enough power

    There was a home on the Chicago Green Homes tour titled the "Tesla House" because the owner had a Tesla and had wanted to recharge it from the solar panels on the roof of the house.

    However, even the entire house wasn't close to large enough for the recharging the car. If the room of an entire American house isn't large enough, then the roof of a car is just PR, not really useful.
