back to article Wayne Rooney razzles in X-Men: Apocalypse plug

It's Friday, and if you need a solid excuse to run screaming from your PC in search of a pint, look no further than this direful Manchester United plug for X-Men: Apocalypse: Anything for the team you say, @WayneRooney? Good luck! #XMenApocalypse https://t.co/ym1XtMansq — Manchester United (@ManUtd) May 20, 2016 Reaction …

    Really?

Cyclops, Wayne Rooney and that soppy girl from Game Of Thrones? We're doomed.

  2. ChunkyMonkey
    Trollface

That's just ridiculous, I mean how would he learn his lines??

    1. Halfmad

      Find an old droppy prostitute

and crayon them onto her bewbs.

  3. Valeyard

    well..

I'd say it's shit but I've seen that head and shoulders football ad too many times, so the bar has fallen pretty low

  4. Bob Vistakin
    Megaphone

Just keep him away from any old folks homes and you'll be OK

    Oh, and Donald Trumps wigmaker.

    The BAFTA's

credit where credit's due! He certainly has a wider range than Benedict Cumberbatch, and would've made a more convincing KHAN too.

(will never forgive him for Khan)

    1. Robert Helpmann??
      Childcatcher

      Re: The BAFTA's

And yet, like a moth the flame, I watch the second in the newest Star Trek series and will probably watch the new X-Men movie, too. Even though I have such low expectations, I hope and in doing so have opened myself to disappointment yet again. I will keep it up until I can take no more and my soul cries out, "KHAAANNNN!"

Oh, and I think Cumberbatch makes an excellent voice actor, but is nowhere near as enjoyable onscreen.

Well Robert, he certainly knows how to murder a 'Vow-ELL'!

  6. Candy

    Bloody 'Ell.

    Paris Hilton

    That's excrutiatingly bad.

I mean, truly cringe-worthy. I know the answer is "beat them with huge bags of money until they cried uncle", but how did they get Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy to do that commercial?

If this is the future of human civilization, you might find me cheering for Apocalypse in a theater near you.

(Paris, because she could teach the principals in this commercial a thing or two about professional integrity.)

now that might have been brilliant IF

at the end, Sophie Turner had rolled her eyes and said, "You know NOTHING, Wayne Rooney!"

      That's Rose Leslie's line!

      1. Blipvert

Re: now that might have been brilliant IF

Patrick Stewart had turned up and acted them all off the fuckin screen!!!!!

    Happy

Wayne Rooney is an X man?

    Now that makes sense.

    1. Fink-Nottle

Re: Wayne Rooney is an X man?

      His superhero alias is Metatarsal?

      1. macjules

Re: Wayne Rooney is an X man?

        Thought it was Grannyshagger?

  11. tassiekev

    Previously, on Baldspot........

Why didn't Louis Van Gaal get a gig? Greatest actor of them all - convinced countless people he could manage a football club.

  12. GitMeMyShootinIrons

    Maybe....

Rooney could give the Prof advice on where he can get hair transplants....

    in hindsight

would it have been funnier if at the end he said "Calm down, calm down!" a'la Harry Enfield?

  14. Fitz_

    ...having now seen the film

...this doesn't look so bad in comparison. More like 'X-Meh'.

Fox certainly know how to ruin something.

So that's where the 250m went.

  16. itzman
    Paris Hilton

    I am confused

was that promoting some collection of football players, some film, or some ginger haired twat reciting lines he had just learnt?

  17. Anonymous Coward

Rooney's performance was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be.

  18. BinkyTheMagicPaperclip Silver badge

    The film isn't that brilliant

..so I can't say I'm fussed by any Rooney attempts to make it worse. It's not dire by any stretch, but it hardly sparkles.

Also, some of the cgi in the opening sequence and a few other occasions is shockingly unconvincing.

  19. MJI Silver badge

    So it was

Someone looking like a potato trying to sell Daiwoo cars (they are not Chevrolets - where are the V8s?)

    A few footballists being annoying.

    Waste of time

    Improved.

His acting has improved a lot since his acting in this wine advert.

The eagle eyed amongst you will notice that Ryan Giggs' performance wasn't too bad. However, remember that he had plenty of practice lying when he was sleeping with his brothers wife.

  21. Pseudonymous Diehard

    Rooney in Xmen?

I didnt know Dreamworks and Marvel were doing a Shrek / Xmen crossover.
