Following a working party meeting in San Diego, the ITU has announced the timeline for 5G standardisation. The IMT-2020 process, outlined here, envisages completing standards for 5G during 2020.     Thanks ITU. We'll have been using 5g-draft for about 3 years by then, good luck cleaning up the standardization mess your dog slow processes are going to spawn.

    2020?

    That will mean 2030 before we get it anywhere outside London then.... and at a 100% price premium to boot (remember EE's 4G intro prices?)

    Who needs this?

    What's the use case for being able to download an UltraHD movie in 10 seconds? It still takes two hours to watch!

      the Use case is 720 people being able to download the UltraHD movie at the same time. Though I gues with the protocol overhead and such like its more like 72.
