Far more excited about Agents of SHIELD, to be honest - don't think that the IT Crowd is one of Linehan's better efforts.

    Woo Hoo

Sooooo happy that this is back on!

      Re: Woo Hoo

I'm actually in two minds about this...

One half of me is going Woo Hoo - more IT crowd!

The other half is thinking that it's like resurrecting a much loved friend with the proviso that you're only going to see them for a short time, and they won't be back the next week, or the week after that... and the last 2008 episode should have been a proper full-stop and they've all gone on to better(?) things.

Having said that, Richard Ayoade does seem to be doing Gadget Man much in the style of Moss (or possibly he was playing Moss much in the style of Richard Ayoade all along!)

We need more documentaries like this

    What ? It isn't a documentary ?

I've either worked with, or still work with, people just like Jen, Roy, Moss and Richmond.

    Anon for obvious reasons !

Re: We need more documentaries like this

No need for anonymous cowering, there. At least 90% of the people in this industry have worked with (or are) folks like that.

Yep, if you haven't worked for someone like that, you are them.

I always was quite pleased that I thought i was quite like Roy.

But then, on a recent re-watching of the whole series, i've come to the conclusion that I'm quite a bit like Moss instead.

Undecided yet if I feel worse or better for that revelation...

Space: what is it? The simple answer is, we don't know. Or at least we didn't know until now. Hello, I'm Douglas Reynholm, and I'm not a scientist, but I do have a better understanding of what space is than any scientist living today.

      You wouldn't shoot a policeman.

      And then steal his helmet.

And then go to the toilet in his helmet.

Then give his helmet back to his family.

      And then steal it again.

(Just been off sick for a couple of days. Netflix and the IT Crowd made me better).

Let me prophesy that it will have no IT jokes in it that only those with IT knowledge will get.

They dropped all of those after season 1. :(

    1. usbac Silver badge

Sadly, I'll bet you are right.

As much as I loved the series, I was very disappointed after watching each episode, hoping for more "in-jokes".

I know they wanted to make in funny for everyone, but they could have left some nuggets in there for us geeks...

      1. Simon Harris
        Happy

If you've got the DVD sets, the 'alternative language' subtitles for the first few episodes of the first series are very amusingly geeky.

      Vintage equipment spotting

It's fun to spot the old PCs on the shelves, though - apparently some were on loan from the museum at Bletchley Park.

The only vaguely techy joke in the last series that I can recall concerned Vista (controlling the bomb disposal robot, so "we're all going to die" would be a natural response) but it was pretty well known to be a disaster, even by the general public.

    3. Glug

That's why season 1 will always be my favourite, even though Linehan felt that season 2 was much stronger.

The humour became much more generalist and leant heavily on a number of passing internet memes (Moss eating popcorn etc) rather than tech-related dialogue

    Hope IT'll be topical

Maybe Roy and Moss discover the NSA have cracked

Reynholm Industries servers and set about cracking

the NSA to teach them a lesson for being so rude....

....Probably by turning the spooks mainframes off....

    and then on again.

  13. Stevelane

One more is not enough. We must lock them in the basement for at least another full series with no parol!

  15. Andrew Jones 2

I'm torn between 2 episode as my favourite.....

Friendface for obvious reasons - was a brilliant episode but I think it might have to be my second favourite with "don't be silly the internet doesn't weigh anything" as my absolute favourite....

be honest.... who hasn't considered putting a flashing light on a box and trying to convince someone that the box *is* the internet??

Anyway I digress - I'm happy about the news - I just hope it doesn't turn out to be as much a disappointment as the Red Dwarf reboot.....

Is Richmond in this episode then?
