back to article 'Google can do whatever it wants with the data once it gets it'

This was the week that wasn't so great for Apple, what with former CEO's Steve Jobs' words coming back to haunt Cupertino again, a bad time in the UK courts and an iOS hack attack. Rumours of an iPad mini have been circulating among the more reliable grapes on the vine, with The New York Times, Bloomberg and The Wall Street …

    Stop

SJ said a lot of things

And changed his mind about them at a later date (flash memory in iPods is the classic example).

Trying to make out that his words were holy writ that can never be changed shows an even greator level of stupidity than you're accusing iFans of. Give it a rest.

'Google can do whatever it wants with the data once it gets it'

    Errm, not they can't....

    http://www.google.com/policies/privacy/

In short, they know what you like and dislike, and Google can show product X adverts to people that are likey to be interested in product X based on their search history. This is about all they can do, they can't sell your details to anyone else, or profit it from it in any other way.

"This is about all they can do, they can't sell your details to anyone else, or profit it from it in any other way."

1 - as far as you know

2 - given the fantastic penalties doled out to abusers (read: about 30 seconds worth of profit) there appears to be all the incentive in the world to do whatever makes profit, irrespective of any laws. It's the kind of unfair advantage you get as a massive company - if you can't bribe politicians to write the laws to suit you, you just reserve a small percentage of your petty cash to pay the fines. The fines for breaking the law simply become the cost of doing business.

"Can" means one thing, and "May" means another. Don't correct someone who is using them correctly.

    Perhaps Mr Jobs was right?

"This is one of the key reasons, we think, the 10-inch screen size is the minimum size required to create great tablet apps"

Given the considerable numbers of shite tablet apps, maybe we only need a 7 inch?

is size that important? or is it how you use it

Interesting comment 7inch pads are not big enough because we will be selling you a swigeingly expensive iPad which will be much bigger a huuuge 3 inches. :-p

In the real world the 10.2 inch pads are just a bit too big when you handle one as an ebook reader it is just not as comfortable as a book to handle, you want to rest it on one hand like a hardback book, as a youtube viewer held again at book distance from your eyes its rather like sitting at the front of a cinema too much too close perfectly ok for web browsing if websites would stop treating it like a phone and forcing mobile pages to display when it would be preferable to use full page size. Me? well I've had a 10.2 for over a year its handy but you want to put it on a desk like a notebook or rest it on your knee like a laptop, my wife agrees tried mine for a while and we got her a 7 inch pad which does everything she wants without causing wrist RSI If 7 inch was really too small then everybody would throw out their iPods wouldn't they?.

The only things these pads are missing is the snob appeal of half eaten fruit.........
