      He writes a competent but unexciting article, some sub drops in a piece of el Reg's trademark sarcasm*, and suddenly he's guilty of sloppy reporting.

      *I suspect he Register's in-house style guide is just 20 pages of examples of how to do sarcasm.

      Since the dawn of communications, humanity has led a fruitless war: how to embed irony, humor and other even subtle metadata to allow for transparent point to point exchanges of information (also called protocol).

      It is a hard fight and there are no winners....

    Timberlake, is that swamp full of wood?

    And sometimes people don't realise there is humour included and need the have the previous posts and maybe even this post explained to them.

    That is to say that the humour passes over their heads (they don't understand it) and that they need "hand holding" to grasp the type of the humour and to spot any double meaning that is used to act as a "punch line" or in an ironic fashion (to know what it means basically, what type of "humour").
