back to article Two iPads put a hole through man's wallet stomach

As technology evolves, so does the potential for increasingly scary and horrific looks this Halloween. Check this guy out for a prime example. By taping a pair of iPad 2s to his body - one on his chest, the other on his back - Mark Rober managed to create the gaping stomach effect famously bestowed upon Goldie Hawn in Death …

Finally a use for the iPad2...

    But a £800 Halloween costume?

    Wow, that looks absolutely...

    ...shit.

      Filming screens seldom looks great

It probably looked a bit better in reality, probably not £800 better though.

    Kudos

    Sir, I salute you !

    Meh

There's only one tiny problem with this

the lag from using facetime plus the narrowed angle of view from the camera make the effect look a bit ... well ... completely shit.

    I think...

It would look much better if he stood in front of something that is not the same colour as the tee-shirt. . White shirt, with white background = no hole effect.

Think he got the idea from...

    ...ThinkGeeks Portal T-Shirt:

    http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/41/portal-tshirt.html

Would have been considerably cheaper too.

  7. JDX Gold badge

    yep

Better with two screens connected using a cable.

    Nice idea though.

  8. Tom_

That would have been cool if...

    ...it had actually worked.

He could have at least turned the brightness down to approximate the lighting in the room.

  9. Paul Hates Handles

    Bit poor

Also, as he turns the viewport into the hole moves in the wrong direction... poor.

    Eeee Ohhh

Sorry, but all I'm getting here is Teletubbies.....

would have been better if the screen on the back wasn't at least a foot higher than the one on the front...

    Stop

    a few dozen more and

    he'll be invisible

    WTF?

    MEh

Hue lag, I thought the iPads are smooth? Doesn't look like..

    Meh, it's been done

Years ago, using cheap digicams.I first saw this sort of thing back in 2005. Granted, it required the ability to take apart a digital camera without destroying it, but it only cost about $100 and didn't need wifi.

    Yeah that looks great

Except that the rear screen is higher than the front screen so the hole isn't even synchronous, and of course, it looks shit anyway.

    Sorry but...

... At the very least align the holes and turn down the brightness of the screens. And while you're at it, properly *HIDE* the screen corners...

A for concept, F for execution.

After all that effort and he couldn't even be bothered to align the iPads front and back? Epic fail.

    The Gaping Hole

The gaping hole also confirms that he has sold his soul to Apple Inc.

  22. Ryan Meier

    Good idea, poorly executed

Will wait for the second rev...

  23. adrianww
    Meh

    Neat idea, but...

...he could at least have tried to get the two iPads lined up at the same level on his front and back. Plus the lighting issues, etc. already mentioned. And, of course, the most important way in which this fails to convince - there's absolutely no impression that you're looking through an actual hole, the edges of which are surrounded by assorted gore, guts and chitlins.

So, overall, more sort of Teletubbies than Death Becomes Her really...

Still, got to give the chap points for at least trying...

Tough crowd today! I won't even bother showing you my invisibility cloak.
