back to article Beeb's iPlayer dismisses radio show as 'b011ckxs'

Fans of comedy urls are invited to raise a pint this afternoon to the Beeb's iPlayer, which is currently providing added value to Episode 7 of the 74th series of Radio 4's The News Quiz: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b011ckxs/The_News_Quiz_Series_74_Episode_7/ As our informant Tom Davie puts it: "What a great URL …

      That dog...

.. looks cute and funny at the same time. (So does the little canine creature.)

For some people, "beardy" is merely metaphorical.

I bow and scrape in awe of your long, flowing chinlocks.

    Excellent news

Off to iTunes to grab the latest podcast since I assume from this story it's out a few hours early. Suggest you all do the same.

      iTunes? Don't be silly!

I'll be using get-iplayer, in a Ubuntu terminal session :)

        It automatically downloads...

... to my HTC Desire (Thank you BrowseCast and Google Listen).

It may arrive a few hours later but it's absolutely no effort, and I don't even need to know when the series starts or ends (which is not so obvious for an ex-pat).

Only downside is I don't get to see the funny URL.

I also recommend the excellent Radio Downloader application for Windows.

Just to confirm for those in doubt..

..no, it isn't. I'm sure you're joking, but I think the one man who had more stones than anyone to protest against the Iraq War deserves a little more respect than to be compared to a wino.

    Jumped the gun!

    >"[...] include sequences such as "b011ddzc" and "b0118mql", so it was just a matter of time [...]"

Indeed, and so it's presumably still just a matter of time until something gets one of the URLs b011ocks or b0110cks...

Last time I was responsible for a random alpha key code generator,

I gave it a limited set of consonants to output, to avoid spelling any actual words, but particularly any rude words.

Or maybe it was alphanumeric... then I also avoided 8/B, 1/I, 0/O and so on.

      No Vowels

You won't see "b011ocks" as the iPlayer ID in the URL, IDs don't contain vowels to avoid IDs spelling out words.

Obviously the BBC forgot about number that look like letters.

      Gritty northern language?

"b0110cxs" ('x' not 'k') was used for episode 3 of Exile, in early May.

Can anyone figure out whether ...cks used for another programme, and if so, which one?

What went wrong? Karma surely would have dictated the URL referred to a Radio 1 offering.
