Already got close to the 2gb limit once on their £5 deal due to youtubing on the bus in the mornings. Plus 300 minutes? Methinks I know what package I'm getting next month.
Also, the Rate Article and Post Reply links are way too close together on a 7" toyslab. I didn't mean to give this article 1/10, honest!
...but giffgaff still beats "3", albeit narrowly (unlimited vs 3000 SMS) on the £15, hammers them (1500 vs 500 minutes) for £25. Must try harder and I don't think I'll be trading in my old 3PAY SIM.
Of course, in half of the country O2 forgot to install any 3G towers in, unlimited at GPRS speeds isn't worth using. And maybe this will finally force giffgaff to allow tethering, the other big advantage with "3".

Also their support is just brilliant.
The same droid phone (ZTE racer) eat 1UKP/HOUR when I had a VF sim inside - I am sure VF was "eating" credit when phone was off/battery removed! now remind me which US carrier was it that was caught out charging PAYG based not upon usage but upon phone model?
My Android 2.2 phone acts as a Wi-Fi hotspot, so I can 'tether' my laptop or netbook and connect to the internet using my Tesco 1-month contract SIM (a measly 500MB a month).
Surely it's the phone that 'allows' tethering and it's nothing to do with the mobile data service operator. Even if it was, why should they care what you do with the data as long as you stay within the contract allowance?

On GiffGaff, the T&C's state that tethering is not allowed. This is because they offer unlimited usage, but only from a phone. Let's face it, a phone is not going to be easily able to download as much as a PC. They are quite happy for you to do whatever you want from your mobile, not imposing any caps. It is unreasonable for them to allow you to use it as a replacement for home broadband.
Some people mentioned GiffGaff's coverage being on O2, and that being bad. Personally, where I live, I agree and disagree.
I had been with Three pretty much since launch and I promoted them to friends and family based on my good experience with them.
I get next to no 3G coverage through GiffGaff round and about where I live and work (Lincolnshire) but I get solid 2G coverage, quite often EDGE. I was with Three PAYG but left them after they dropped 2G backup leaving huge swathes of the county without any signal. This was after protracted 'customer service' from their Executives Office who promised my phones unlock code for weeks on end but never phoned back until I really started to have a go at them. They all-but admitted over the phone that they aren't bothered about you if you live outside of a major city.
I know it is horses for courses, but I'd rather have virtually total coverage rather than a phone that only works when I am at home (have a landline for that...)
GiffGaff's offers are great and I am 100% happy to have joined them from Three. After the abysmal customer service I got from Three, I wouldn't go back now if they paid me.

It's not Virgin is subject to 3000 fair use so it's the same allowance with less data.. 3 trumps a virgin...

so let's got this right, im new to PAYG 3G
i can walk in to a shop and ask for a PAYG Three SIM and a generic USB stick (at what cost ?) to put it in, take it home and plug it into the PC,laptop or whatever, enter a thing in your software "Change your APN" ? (what too and where do you get this info per operator/vendor ?), and be up and running within seconds , is that right, total cost is including the USB 3G stick to put it in ?,
i dont care about the other calls and SMS crap stuff, only real unlimited data from a usb connected 3G stick laptop PC
...Your connection gets throttled down to a snail's pace once you go over 1GB usage.
...You also get billed at 10p/MB if they deem your use data of to be non-personal
Oh, and there's the 36 pages of Terms & Conditions to allow them to wriggle out of any commitments you feel that they may owe you through their marketing - all this neatly formatted onto two A4 printable pages into in a 2-point fontsize:
