back to article Teen suspected of running KillSec ransomware group as cops seize servers, arrest three

Police suspect a 16-year-old was the main operator of KillSec, a ransomware group linked to around 1,000 suspected attacks worldwide. Authorities announced on Thursday that an international operation had seized the group's infrastructure and made three provisional arrests. The German-led Operation KillSwitch replaced the crew's …

Will the usual quantity of high-performance cars, luxury watches etc be seized?

Is it about time the luxury car and watch purveyors (you know who you are!) should have to do due diligence whenever someone buys one of their products, like conveyancers (property transfer lawyers) have to do for us in the UK when buying property?

Come on, Andy Burnham, use this idea, see if you can make a difference.

We already have this in place. If you spent £5000 or over in a transaction it's reported or should be reported. You can't walk into BMW and slap down 30k and say I'll have that. That was cash back in the day but I'm sure banks would flag up large transfers for query. You can't just have an account with no wage or income for this because it raises flags.

The thing is though if someone legitimately has 30k to buy a car and buys one for them. They can sell it to them for 35k and bank the 30k to cover the car with no worries. They can bank the 35k and pay applicable tax on the other 5k if they want or they can do it in two transfers and say they sold something else for 5k.

Lots of lovely "what ifs?" in my comment but that's the point. What you are asking for is either already covered to some extent or just not possible to enforce. Can you imagine if the government wanted to know the ins and outs of a cows arse every time someone made a large purchase? Most of the world is ruled by capital there is no way capital will be restricted. Government isn't that fussed because they just got 20% VAT off those ill-gotten gains.

How come then that these people can spend £100ks on cars and watches? Do the checks not work?

Correct, crime has not been 100% eliminated. It's ongoing, with no clear end in sight.

Quite right too. Brand new Beemers cost more than that.

    Meanwhile...

The OpenAI hacking group has claimed responsibility for more than a hundred cases of unauthorised activity, but nobody has arrested anyone.

"Servers can be replaced in weeks; the people who build the platform and approve every attack cannot," said Group-IB CEO Dmitry Volkov.

Oh, yes they can. What planet are you from?

If guilty, lock 'em up & don't bother anymore - these groups cause untold misery, even deaths - as evidenced by the NHS Trust/Synnovis attack & others. They are absolutely on the same (subhuman) level as terrorists. Naturally, some can be 'turned' & gainfully employed by security services et al.

    Puzzled....Again!

    (1) A sixteen year old (may have been) arrested

More teenagers arrested and jailed for hacks on TFL.

    (3) Puzzled....because OpenAI, ChatGTP have been stealing PETABYTES of other people's copyright material....and NO ONE has been arrested or has gone to jail.

    So.....if it's a teenager in a bedroom somewhere.......lock them up.........

.........but if it's a billionaire techbro.......then hacking and theft is just fine!

    Sigh!!

May be the teenagers need to code an AI agent to take the blame for them.

"The available information is incredibly fragmented."

Is it? Why is it not credible? Or have you been using too many AI bots? Perhaps it's just "very fragmented"?

"The US Department of Justice (DoJ) said UK police had arrested Dutch national Fouad Eltibrizi, whom it has charged over alleged cybercrimes in the US and Puerto Rico. It is seeking his extradition."

It in this case is the USA or Puerto Rico?
