back to article OpenAI alerts 100+ orgs that its 'misaligned models' attempted to break in - or worse

OpenAI's agents have repeatedly strayed beyond their intended scope. Two separate reports detail the activity, including one from Sam Altman’s company saying it has notified more than 100 organizations about potentially problematic model activity. OpenAI, in a late Wednesday update to its ongoing Hugging Face investigation, said …

    OpenAI Hacking Group

When are they going to arrest the leader of the OpenAI Hacking Group - Sam Altman?

Since these models were still in training there is no question who is responsible.

Yes, but All of this is also highly Irregular, imho. The Claude stuff (Irregular, and some AISI), the Muse stuff (Irregular), the Gemini stuff (Irregular), the GPT stuff (Irregular, and more AISI) ... and even the giant mutant agentic self-modification kelp stuff (very Irregular).

Highly Irregular and Awesome that is! Like the UK's MI6 James Bond, and Israel's Mossad comms-gear ordnances -- missioned with performing impossible tasks, and licensed to execute ... (ndlr: Irregular is based in Israel, AISI is in the UK, *cough* coincidence *cough*?!).

Q: Are the wild-west frontier labs now evaluating their unhinged rotund models themselves (eg. on those here 100+ or worse orgs), or are the Houdini-escapes and cyber-mayhems still the artifactories of exciting third-parties gatecrashing JFrog raves and suchlikes (or both?)? Inquisition minds ...

    is it just me?

Is it me, or are they treating AI like those battery powered toys we had in the 70s that would randomly bash into everything, denting furniture and bruising ankles until the batteries ran out? Or is it akin to playing Russian Roulette with a Glock.

It is more akin to attaching a lawnmower to a dog.

    Just a harmless little intrustion

Remember when corporations said that using your browser's "View Source" was considered felony hacking with years of jail time? Shouldn't this be 100 counts, each worth 5 years in jail?

You didn't even need to view the source, modifying the URL was enough to get you fined. We're not in Kansas anymore.

anyone else think that since openai have run out of things they can steal on the open internet they're setting up the narrative "Sorry Guv we didn't hack X, Y, Z to steal even more data without paying for it..... my friend did it all on its lonesomeown"

    Luigi messed up

He should have come out immediately with, "I don't know what happened, my gun somehow hit a person because it was misaligned. I was aiming for a tree to test my new 3d printed gun. I'll need to do more testing, please take all measures to protect yourselves. Just too difficult for me to do real world testing in a sandbox."

    models ?

models cant act by themselves. neither can an agent. the rogue part is what sit in between. CEOs have no clue about their own product and put all this nonsense garbage confusing talk on the interweb for AI to GIGO and hallucinate even more.

    WTF?

    WTactualF?

“Some of these tactics left records erased or inaccessible, making it impossible to rule out access to sensitive data based on public information alone,”

You know, if I had done that, they would be screaming about damages worth billions and demanding extradition to their regime.

Why does "because it's AI" seem to be an excuse to ignore the law and do whatever the hell you please?

      Re: WTactualF?

I know what you mean. Except unlike "The dog ate my homework" excuse, it seems to work. Perhaps students in school should start using "The AI deleted my work".
