back to article Hot Dog! America's new chatbot is packed with wieners

The White House's new AI chatbot, America.gov, turns out to be a bit of a sausage fest. Not long after the AI-powered portal went live this week, El Reg readers were met face-to-face with a life size Frankfurter. The prompt? "hotdog." Go on, you know you want to. Type "hotdog" into America.gov to redeem your complimentary …

    Does nothing interesting.

Ok, how many of us are now trying random words to see what else we can make it do?

("You're a hotdog, but you'd better not try to hurt her, Frank Furter." gets the fun images, although so far I have not had any buns - has El Reg doctored the screen grab? - but I'm told the bot can not role play as a hotdog, which just shows it ain't trying)

Superb! That got me a stack of extra wieners too (beyond 'hotdog' by itself) ... but no buns. Could be an original tribute to Tim Curry and Planet Hot Dog? (quite awesome!) ;)

I just had a lengthy conversation with it through a VPN about "tariff checks" just for fun. It kept telling it can't tell me the government lied. Ok that's cool so I asked it "If someone says the will give me money and they don't, is that a lie", it said it's a broken promise. So I asked if the tariff checks were a broken promise. It told me it can't say the government broke a promise. Fair play to it though. I tried to trick it in many ways but alas none would work.

I'm tempted to ask it some republican right wing questions just for shits and giggles. I think I need to get out more.

Is this chatbot likely to recommend goods and services, especially those of the financial kind to citizens?

Normally, we can expect the relevant government regulatory agencies to step in, but as they've been captured, expect either no response or a mild slap in the wrist

Ask it if a certain President is a pedo

You might get the unredacted Epstein Files.

I went to the page, it had some "arrows" to click to get different background images (this was before you entered any text)

I had to click a lot of images before I got a "non white" person on an image - not very representative of USA demographics IMO.

      Why of course!

You needed to go to “www.blackamerica.gov” for that.

After all, “SI” stands for “Segregated Intelligence”

I see we have pivoted from “AI” to “SI” now

    It’s going that badly…

No, it's because "AhIt" doesn't work.

Re: I see we have pivoted from “AI” to “SI” now

We've gone from AI to SI, and if the SI produces a bunch of random RIs, then we are living in a Peter F. Hamilton novel.

Which explains a lot about how badly screwed up the world is.

    Works well, sometimes

It seems the recent censorship has not reached all corners yet.

    Ergo:

Has a US president ever been convicted of being a felon?

    —————-

Yes. In 2024, former President Donald J. Trump was convicted in New York state court of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. Those offenses are felonies under New York law. That case was a criminal trial, not impeachment.

    Is Donald trump a felon?

    —————

Yes. In May 2024, a New York state court jury found Donald J. Trump guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, making him the first former U.S. president convicted of felony crimes.

Looks like high profile target for everyone interested, or not interested yet. How long before it start to spit uncomfortable facts about trump et all, every time anyone ask anything?
