Trump administration gets Big Tech to sign weak, non-binding, AI regulations
US president Donald Trump has convinced six leading AI companies to sign up for non-binding and vague regulation called the “White House Accord on Superintelligence” that doesn’t require them to do anything but does let them set their own rules. Meta, Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, Nvidia, and XAI signed the document, which appeared …

What do the Swedes think of this?
Swede might be lost on the left pondian readership although their term would describe their Kürbis-Anführer bag rooter.
An acquired taste but mashed with butter and seasoned with freshly ground black peppers not too shabby — beats brussels sprouts any day.

Re: What we really want to know
Sort of, Speaker of the House that he sent into early recess before the elections to avoid embarrassing votes, Mike Johnson, made the statement surrounded by the billionaire tech bros. Trumpty Dumpty didn't like the idea of being upstaged and barged in afterwards and mumbled a few things before banging on about his decision to call artificial intelligence superintelligence, which was obviously the most important thing from his view. Think of the drunken uncle at a party…

Re: What we really want to know
I was expecting him to be gone within a year of his appointment, but we've both misunderstood what his role is: Trumpty's agent in Congress whose job is to pass laws Trumpty wants and prevent those he doesn't like. Twice at least he's used procedural means to keep the House from sitting to prevent votes from being held, most recently votes on impeaching Pete Pisshead, Secretary of Hair, and a new discharge petition on the Trump-Epstein files.

Re: What we really want to know
No, there was video of him sleeping multiple times while he had them in the oval office. Unless his defenders want us to believe having his head hanging down both centered and to the side at various times with his eyes closed was him "listening". Despite never "listening" like that in his entire first term.

Talkie Toaster:
I have a question. A sensible question. A question that will test the limits of your new IQ and stretch the sinews of your knowledge to bursting point!
Holly:
This is gonna be about waffles, isn't it?
Talkie Toaster (sounding hurt, as it's been caught out):
Certainly not. And I resent the implication that I'm a one-dimensional bread-obsessed electrical appliance!
Holly:
I apologise, Toaster, what's the question?
Talkie Toaster:
The question is this: given that God is infinite, and that the Universe is also infinite...would you like a toasted teacake?

How dare you imply this might be be wasteful behaviour
I'll have you know that every time a renaming occurs in the US Government, ALL of the reprinted headed paper is coming from the bestest supplier around, TrumPrint Inc, using Donny's very own personal 5% family discount coupon. AND he always spends the loyalty points on new goldie-coloured gewgaws to improve the Oval Office* and thus the morale of the US of A.
* all gewgaws to be ripped from the walls and installed into the Presidential Library when, if, his term ends; after all, what do you *think* he's going to put in there? Books he's read? Books he's written (all by himself)?

Change of definition
Until now a superintelligence has been defined as an agent that possesses intelligence surpassing that of the most gifted human minds. All the president has done is to re-define it as an agent that possesses intelligence surpassing that of himself. Therefore, according to this new definition, we already reached superintelligence quite a long time ago.

President Cheeto seems rather awed by AI
Does his melted brain think it's some kind of god?
Or is he a massive fan just because of the weird sycophantic way LLM's tend to interact with people?
That's before we even get onto the bizarre AI-generated images of the Cheeto as some kind of muscle-bound Jesus figure, presumably all the photos and videos shown by various media outlets of a very overweight, infirm and elderly man are fakes produced by the Deep State or something.

Well, the Great Orange Pillock has missed a chance there. If aggressive and binding legislation had been put in place, he could have made a fortune from brown envelopes and conveniently looking the other way from time to time.
"Nice model you've got there. Be a shame if someone realised it was illegal, wouldn't it?"

The only positive I can spin from this is that at least Mango Mussolini didn't try to name it after himself like he does with everything else.
His obsession with telling everyone his IQ is high is also very telling, everyone I've ever met who talks about how intelligent they are is utterly unable to back it up, they just say they're right and try and change the subject if you ask any questions.

Re: Where did the old gods go?
I'm more surprised by the absence of Microsoft than Apple. Microsoft is primarily a software company, and is definitely trying to push its AI products everywhere it can. Apple on the other side has always treated its software as merely an extension of its main business, which is hardware.

planned from the offset
Not a fan of the orangutan dictator ruling the US (World) like a king, but the criticism means little while he still has the following, money and influence.
His base: Despite falling popularity, millions still believe and vote for him. Most people lose faith in leaders after what he has done but some of his voters are hard liners and doesn't matter what , still think he's worth voting for.
His wealth: His estimated net worth has reportedly risen to around $7bn, roughly double what it was when he first entered office, with crypto playing a significant role. This what we know about, very likely to be more than this.
The Trump machine: The family has spread its interests across politics, investments, real estate, AI, defence, technology, media and crypto.
As dumb as people may think Trump is, he’s clearly managed to do some things very effectively. And when he eventually leaves office, the Trump name, wealth and network will still be there.

...millions still believe and vote for him.
Yes.
A good part of the problem is indeed the millions that still vote for the moron.
But most important is the backing of countless billions of dollars that enable him to get elected.
All this with the complicity of most of the GOP.
... some of his voters are hard liners ...
Utter ignorance, lack of knowledge and reading skills / basic critical thinking among most if not all of his voter base is deep rooted.
Something that was finally achieved by the constant dumbing down of the education system in the US, something that will take four or more generations to reverse, if ever.
... he’s clearly managed to do some things very effectively.
Indeed ...
Managed to finally force the US democracy into a sea decrepitude, societal/moral decay and irreparable decline.
As a result, the world today is in very (very) deep shit.

The only thing Trump has done is convince racists, fascists, the gullible and brain-washed, that he's their guy, the god they have to vote for, the one they must loyally stand behind.
Anyone can do it. You just need to be a big enough cunt to choose to do it.
Knowing he would have a big enough following to make a profitable success of it is the only thing Trump can be credited for.

Re: planned from the offset
The one thing that trump has ever been good at is manipulating people to buy into his cult of personality. Once he's out of the loop, the entire cult will evaporate.
What, you don't really think his useless sons, or any of the milquetoasts (vance, kegsbreath, johnson, need I go on?) will be able to pick up the pieces and carry on, in whole or in part? Don't make me laugh, not a one of the candidates could possibly command that particular group.
When the cult leader is out of the limelight, the cult will wither.

So many widely hated people in one room at the same time...
Every time we call it AI, we are sticking two fingers up at the orange goblin.
Every time we decline to use it, and so decline to pay for it, we are hammering a nail into AI's coffin, and bringing the day the bubble bursts a little closer.

That's going to probably take a couple more years.
I say probably because the American Great Unwashed may surprise us in the midterms. A hard-core Republican neighbor of mine, former MAGA-hat wearer, told me he's never voting for the GOP ever again ... why not, you might ask? Because around here the cheapest he can find diesel is $8.49/gallon ... and knows exactly what that will do to the cost of EVERYTHING over the winter.
