Just cancel the payment method

Why does it not occur to people to cancel the direct debit/standing order or dispute the charge with a credit card company

Companies that make it trivially easy to sign up but impossible to leave (looking at you PlusNet / Amazon / McQueens Dairy etc) deserve everything they have to pay chasing bad debts that will never, ever be paid. Write them a short email cancelling the service, kill the payment method and (eventually they'll have sold the debt on to a bunch of shysters like Lowells) block the number of the inevitable begging calls.

Or is it so different in the US that doing so makes you a criminal?

Somehow I managed to join Prime. I don't know how but there you are. To cancel, type "how to cancel prime" in the search box.

Then just follow it through. Watch out for the tricks though!

When you get to the end (about 6 or 7 clicks) you will see the cancel button. It's faffy but it does work.

There isn't.

The lights are on a timer.

A part-time custodian comes in just before tea, checks the Roombas, does some light dusting, takes tea, then locks up and leaves.

There's an LLM chatbot running in The Cloud which answers incoming emails.

There's a consultancy which aperiodically updates their web site.

There's another Cloud-based LLM which randomly makes press releases ("We take consumers' data security very seriously ...") and files the occasional sueball, which is resolved with a consent decree (defendant: "We did absolutely nothing wrong. But, we pinkie-swear to never do it again ...").

It's quite bad that a "medical" site is sending medical information to advertisers. But the advertisers are accepting it. Give them criminal charges; this is data they should NOT have access to, and they know it.
