Well done Microsoft

I'm near the front of the queue to criticise Microsoft when I think they do something wrong, so today I will give them praise for doing something I think is right, well a few things. This is a good decision, I don't want Copilot on my Xbox so thank you. Well done too in appointing a person to lead the Xbox division who will make decisions that wider corporate may not like and for wider corporate to back her decision and make it happen.

I'm now off to rub various linux distro dvds aganst me and do some searches on Spotlight.

You're missing the point in thanking them for removing it. It should never have been shoved down anyone's throats in the first place.

Fair point, however they have now come to a better decision and implemented it, and in good parenting fashion I'm ignoring the bad behaviour and rewarding the good behaviour. I'm been shouting at MS for over 30 years without getting very far so I'm trying a different approach

Presumably the "Elon Musk method" didn't take off because it didn't work for Elon Musk himself- everyone found out he'd cheated that way and he looked even more of a sad git who's clearly desperate to be popular while trying to feign the pretence that he doesn't care what anyone thinks.

Which is forgiveable when it's coming from a fifteen-year-old, but from a smug man in his fifties who still acts like a fifteen year old because he was rich and privileged enough to never have to grow beyond that or develop any level of maturity or empathy is fucking charmless and deserves every bit of derision it gets.

I had the same thought, but all I could think of was some sort of better voice chat thing to carry out account related tasks more better?!!?

What I really thought was mainly they were sticking it on XBox to gather those users data as well, like a super cookie for a console.

The AI assistant has yet to catch fire with customers in the same way as rivals like Gemini and ChatGPT.

I don't know that they have caught fire so much as customers want to set them on fire slightly less than Copilot, probably largely because they're easier to ignore if you don't want anything to do with them and they aren't shoved in your face every time you start up your PC or open any Microsoft application.
