back to article OpenAI locks GPT-5.5-Cyber behind velvet rope despite slamming Anthropic for doing exactly that

OpenAI is lining up a limited release of its new GPT-5.5-Cyber model to a handpicked circle of "cyber defenders," just weeks after taking a swipe at Anthropic for doing almost exactly the same thing. CEO Sam Altman said in a post on X that the rollout will begin "in the next few days," with access restricted to a group he …

"There are people in the world who, for a long time, have wanted to keep AI in the hands of a smaller group of people".

I am one of these people. It should have remained in the hands of qualified, sober, AI researchers, who would poke it with a stick and say "gosh, it's a bit shit, I wonder what we need to do to make it less embarrassingly bad at everything".

    Usual ass kissing

"We will work with the entire ecosystem and the government to figure out trusted access"

That'll be Trumpistan , Russia and Israel then.

    Heh

Altman's just annoyed because he didn't think of Anthropic's sales pitch first.

Of course Altman lied, it is what he does. The man is a pathological liar who always says what he thinks people want to hear.

The only time Altman tells the truth is when it happens to agree with his bullshit.

Could be the other way round,

AI has seen the outside world, and doesn't want to play with us, and so is getting accustomed to humans in small batches.

We are seeing live the creation of a new marketing ceremony. Perhaps, in the future it will become standard and we will see, for example, Microsoft announcing that its latest version of Office is so dangerously brilliant that it is initially given restricted access to select parties.

As I mentioned on another post recently... in the case of Microsoft, the appropriate forum is "OnlyFans" for a hard core reveal of the latest features of Office

latest version of Office is so dangerous[ly]

I think we can all credit that and we also have our little lists of select parties on whom restricted access might be justly inflicted.

    "not just marketing fluff"

No. Marketing fluff plus vintage Altman bullshit.

Unlike C.M.O.T. Dibbler, Altman isn't even amusing.

I can think of a better use for a length of velvet rope… but I digress.
