back to article Anthropic sure has a mess on its hands thanks to that Claude Code source leak

When it comes to circling up for this week's Kettle, what is there to discuss but Anthropic's accidental release of Claude Code's source code? People have peered behind Claude Code's curtain before, but never like this: Prior attempts to understand how the AI software development assistant worked typically required reverse- …

Complete and utter burnouts, spreading like wildfire, all over the place

Yeah, we should "see an IPO pushed out" a huge lot imho. Not just because of this latest of most amateurish snafus that raises substantial doubts about the market readiness of the outfit, but also because this AI (so-called) bubble will pop soon enough, in that irrational exhuberance of the roaring 20s meets Black Tuesday and Thursday kind of way (totally non-Thanksgiving), as post-COVID psychosis imitates post-Spanish-Flu années folles in this space, iiuc.

I mean, we were confined for two whole years or somesuch, losing trust in our institutions and ourselves, hoping for some supernatural savior to show up, and there it was, just a couple years later: ChatGPT, the SuperIntelligence, Artificial General Intelligence, Intelligence++++, the I'm With HyperIntelligence stuff we'd put on T-Shirts, and so forth, finally here to save us all, kill us all trying, or just plain terminate our puny unworthy selves just for the kicks of it. A godsent redemptive hallucination by all confessional measures, accounts, and standards iirc! The prolonged padded-room isolation had sure driven us more nuts than a CERN antimatter truck filled with cuckoo clocks, and it showed, to this day ...

The stuff comes at our post-traumatized selves with its unstoppable wide open claws, ready and willing to shred us all to bits, but somehow has trouble safekeeping its own secret sauce as it implores us for more RotM handouts ... that's thick and rich alright. Can't thank it enough for putting 80% of us out of work and burning out the rest! ;(

    Har, Har!

I'm highly amused that, after taking everybody else's IP for training data, they are upset at others studying theirs.

Nobody ever claimed that AI mongers are a textbook example of balanced, rational thinking.

I imagine trying to find a single example of balanced, rational thinking might rank with Diogenes cynical search for an honest man in Athens.

I suspect if today Diogenes and I were to wend our way together around the world and encountered Altman, or any of the AI or tech bro. neither of us would find our exemplar.

Build pipelines have no respect for IPO timelines

Half a million lines of source slipped out because someone forgot to check their build process. If one of my clients left proprietary code in a public location, we would be having a very serious conversation. But when chasing an IPO, build pipeline hygiene does not generate the same buzz as another safety benchmark.

Half a million lines of code slipped out because it was hosted on a publicly-accessible system where one security slip gave the whole world access.

Billions of dollars in capex and they can’t run a private code repository and build system? Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

We all know what really happened here.

Many people have dug through the code at this point. Everyone agrees that it’s completely, hilariously cursed. It looks like the output you would get if somebody kidnapped a dozen interns, force-fed them Ritalin, and made them work for weeks on end with zero sleep.

This is not a codebase. It is a cry for help.

Anthropic probably leaked the code on purpose, in hopes that real (human) developers would clean this dumpster fire up for them.

It appears that this is already happening: https://github.com/ultraworkers/claw-code

    Here we go

The first known AI to escape containment is already breeding "in the wild". Anyone think it was really an accident?
