Microsoft Executive Vice President (EVP) for Experiences and Devices, Rajesh Jha, is retiring from Microsoft after more than 35 years at the Redmond grindstone. Jha announced his retirement yesterday, kicking off yet another round of reorganization at the Windows behemoth. He will move into an "advisory role" from July 1, and …

    MS Works!

The picture of the Works CD takes me back!

I remember getting a copy of Works with a new PC sometime in the last century.

I also remember that it was a great little package that did 95% of everything I wanted at the time.

Also came with Microsoft Money and a calendar app that I used for several years.

Gradually got ensittificated until it became Office 2010 starter edition with adverts.

    Oh for the simplicity!

      Speak of the devil†.

I just mentioned MS Works now I see an image of the install cdrom I still have somewhere (her indoors got it with her first PC ca 1998 along with Encarta.)

† I only recently learnt the rest of that phrase. "Speak of the devil and he will come knocking on your door."

      Re: MS Works!

Nowadays, instead of Works you might well get a copy of LibreOffice. That or one of the other FOSS office suites seems to be the solution for pre-installed home edition or whatever its called.

My SiL got a new laptop last week and as she was willing to pay some local Windows specialist to set it up and transfer everything from her old W7* I happily kept clear but called in yesterday prepared to install LO if she didn't have anything to open her old documents. No problem, he'd already done that. Much the same seems to apply to other Windows users I know. LO and the others are probably in more widespread use than many here think.

Fun additional observation. After whatever happened in transferring her email over she's now got a message from Microsoft telling her she's over 100% of her 5 gig email allowance. I took a look and advised her to clear the 620 messages in her spam folder.

      * No, it's not getting any form of Linux installed. It's just too knackered to be worth the trouble.

I also recall running into Works in a similar timeframe. Unfortunately it was as the software that couldn't output a file compatible with Word without all the formatting disappearing.

Not quite as rose-tinted my nostalgia for the program.

      Microsoft Money was briliant

    5. Is there anybody out there?

      Re: MS Works!

I still use Money to track my home finances today. Its fab. A registry change is needed for Win10/11 but that is simple enough. The online content doesn't work but I was never interested in that anyway

Surely they can replace him with AI!

"Teper has taken credit for "Creating SharePoint Server,""

That should be grounds for firing followed by a public lynching.

So makes perfect sense that Micro$lop promoted him.

      Taking Credit

Teper has taken credit for "Creating SharePoint Server,"

Wow, he designed and coded that whole entire thing all by his own little lonesome self? /sarcasm

At non-executive job levels, he'd have been shitcanned for lying on his resumé.

At Microsoft "taking credit for" should be "admits responsibility for".

On second thoughts, make that "humbly admits responsibility and apologises for".

"not lose the great momentum we have"

No mention of starting to release well written, reliable and properly tested software, or of listening to end users and providing for their needs with AI as an opt-in feature on everything. Looks like that momentum is in completely the wrong direction then.

When plummeting headlong towards the ground there is no immediate risk of losing momentum - indeed g will generously donate more.

Off course on encountering reality (ground) this "great momentum" will be violently transferred.

Deceased ursines have three bounces in them, I am led to believe — a microsofts might be up for a tiny splat.

And we give a sh!t why exactly..? will this reduce the enshitification @ Micro$lop..?

No, but it will change the direction.

It's important to know about because it affects everyone.

So it's all his fault, then?
