Polyglot Notebooks

Microsoft's attempt at trying to create their own Jupyter Lab - which is now deemed a failure or have we merely reached phase three of the infamous MS plan?

Dump Microsoft?

Did that years ago when Win 8 dumped (deprecated..) several of my expensive peripherals. MS response - just go buy new ones! My response - they still work perfectly under Ubuntu, so I will dump Microsoft instead. Did that, and have never found any need to use anything made by MS since then. Happy penguin bunny now.

Doesn't everyone use Google Colab for data analysis, including Microsoft.

As in, I've actually seen Microsoft publish Google Colab notebooks.

Personally, I use self-hosted Jupyter Hub.

Same here, run it in a docker container, thus avoiding the Python env hellscape. Works great, always available and always local

Behaviour like this...

... is the reason I try to convince the rest of the group that staying with bloody MS is not a viable long term option. In our case we have extensive SSRS (reporting services) reports that people rely on. PowerBI is only nice if you can run it in "the cloud", all the good stuff is not available on-prem - and who knows how long they will have that running. I really would like to have timeseriesdb (postgresql) plus Grafana. Wish me luck!

Guess this confirms the hunch that all managers at Microsoft who isn't doing anything "AI" related are all running around like chickens with their head chopped off.
