Cloud to be an American: Congress votes to kick China off remote GPU services
Chinese companies may be unable to import the best US GPUs, but they have found a workaround: renting access to that hardware via cloud services. Re: Europe needs to follow suit
Its not just "the Trump regime". Trump is just the showman, the real problem lies underneath the surface. Trump himself is just the 'useful idiot' who provides the cover.
We're actually a bit like Germany in the 1930s with fundamental structural weakness in our economy being covered by a program of bluff where we attempt to secure economic primacy on the backs of others. We should be able to compete with countries like China but we're misusing our resources and our oppressive nationalism is not only alienating others who normally work with us but are depriving us of resources that we've been increasingly relying on. Currently much of Europe's political class is into appeasement -- instead of telling us to FO over Greenland, for example, they'll 'negotiate' and the UK seems to be ever ready to lend us a hand when it comes to dubiously legal practices like cloaking piracy as sanctions enforcement, providing jumping off bases of unilateral action in violation of the UN Charter (substitute "League of Nations" for "UN".....).
I don't think the Chinese will be harmed one way or another by this. Anyway, I'm more concerned about the extreme resource usage of AI server farms and their dubious utility as worker replacements.

I have to wonder..
for these "politicians" what the weighting is between:
(1) we 100% believe China is bad
(2) we 100% project China is bad cause it gets us votes with the people we have indoctrinated to believe China (and blacks, browns, gays, foreigners etc) are bad
I firmly believe that with Trump, it's mainly (2)... lets drop some bombs on some fields in NIgeria and claim we are protecting Christians cause it plays well with the base.
Or we have to protect the children from trans athletes because out of over 500,000 student-athletes attending NCAA schools, fewer than 10 are transgender as per NCAA President Charlie Baker. Again, play to the base who believe their son will go to school as a male in the morning and come back a girl in the afternoon.
With (1), the US itself is setting the bar in relation to what is considered bad...so on reflection China might not in reality be so bad.
