A fool ...
...and his/her/their money...
If Xbox console prices are going to leave Santa short this year, fear not as an alternative is at hand - Xbox Crocs are here for $80. Standard black Crocs cost under $50, but for $30 more you get added thumbsticks and buttons. Spend another $20 and you can decorate the backstrap with Jibbitz charms, including the Doom and Sea …
with Crocs is that in their simplest, they are comfortable, robust and practical. I am coming to the end of the lie of mine (20+ years old I think and inherited from my Dad) - I have already done my best to keep them going but there are only so many times you can recut treads in the soles.
The problem Croc have is that they do last. And so they need to persuade people to buy new ones with no good reason for doing so.
The over-commodification of everything is driving me insane a little bit. Crocs are collectors' items when just a few years ago they were more protective flip-flops bought when you forgot yours on vacation. Stanley water bottles are collectors' items, when they're famously supposed to be the last water bottle you'll ever buy. Labubu.
It truly drives me nuts, who's asking for this, and when it comes out, why tf are people buying it? Consumerism for the sake of consumerism. I'm not going to pretend I'm not a hypocrite; I've got an ALF figurine playing the guitar on my desk right now as I slack off at work, but like come on.
I have a pair of Teva sandals I got when I was a teenager. I'm in my 40s. They've been on a number of hiking trips (as bathing or creekstomping shoes), campouts, and plenty of use around the house. Would I buy another pair? Sure, if they're a similar quality - once these finally wear out. (The velcro has definitely seen better days.)
My 20+ year old Crocs concur. Although even with treads, these tended to be treacherous on slick concrete.
I liked the original Crocs, but they fanned out into countless varieties with new sizing schemes. This made just replacing the old worn out pair problematic - without going to one of their official stores and trying on several variations. Decent knock-offs go for like 20% of the retail price of originals, btw - if you can size them right.
