back to article Ukraine first country in Europe to get Starlink satellite phone service

Ukrainian telco Kyivstar has launched Starlink's Direct to Cell satellite service for its subscribers, making the war-torn nation the first in Europe to offer it. The technology provides phone connectivity when terrestrial networks are unavailable and is currently in trial for all Kyivstar customers. It initially supports only …

    Just no...

"Virgin Media O2 (VMO2) recently confirmed it will offer a satellite service for UK customers"

Trying to get those useless script readers in India to actually listen to your issue is a harsh lesson in futility as it stands now.

"You need to turn the satellite off, wait thirty 30, then turn it back on"

    Ukraine to get first...

And be beholden to Elon Musk who despite some recent hiccups will do what Trump wants. If Zelinski does not give in and like both Putin's and Trump's boots they'll pull the service.

    Anther case of :-

    1) Putting all your eggs in one basket

    2) creating of a single point of failure (the whims of Elon Musk)

    Why? just Why?

It sounds like it doesn't really matter

The article says Kyivstar covers almost everywhere, it is only in those few "not spots" where you'd be leaning on Starlink.

This is a publicity announcement by Starlink, and if it gets pulled wouldn't really affect Ukraine's war effort because of the limited areas where it would matter and because Ukraine is smart enough not to add dependency on Musk / the US where they have a choice.

Creating “not spots” is easy when you have plenty of things that go bang.
