This is by design
Any consumer positive regulation has to be stamped out, so the CFPB is being set up for failure to provide an excuse to remove it entirely. Even though the protections it provided are laughable compared to what people in the EU and even the UK are used to, big corporations have railed against it for sins like requiring them to tell you in advance how much you will ACTUALLY be spending per month and the breakdown of all their bs fees if you switch to that cellular or fiber internet plan with the low advertised price.
My mom switched to a fiber provider last spring, price was advertised at $48.50 per month but she's spending almost $20 more after all the fees. And there is no way to find out what those fees are in advance before committing to the service on a one year contract. I asked, they gave me some mumbling about it depends on location and other factors but they couldn't/wouldn't tell me even when I asked specifically for her zip code. A year ago I could have reported them to the CFPB and maybe got some satisfaction (if nothing else the satisfaction of making them squirm even if it doesn't help my mom)
